Small World
I was just driving back from my parents to my house today, when I came round the corner onto my road and saw a bright yellow Land Rover with a Purple Sun logo on the back. There’s only one person in the world drives a car like that, my ex-colleague from three years ago Steve White! It’s a small world indeed – considering that was in Surrey, and this is in Honley, a distance of around 250 miles!
Dangit dangit dangit
My ISP must hate me… the amount of data I shift is fairly massive… I must have hit a couple of hundred gig last month. Needless to say… mirroring Ubuntu from fr.archive.ubuntu.com doesn’t seem to have helped things. A good chunk of my repository seems to be half gone…

Stuff that rocks
Every now and then I come across technology that rocks. QEmu rocks, in a very technical way, but then I read up on Xen. This stuff looks like it allows for incredible flexibility… live migration of entire servers from one physical platform to another! I’m looking forward to Ubuntu/Debian having it built in.
The quick shaving conundrum
When I’m shaving in the morning, a strange reverse psychological phonomenon often ocurrs.
“I’m running late…” I think to myself (most mornings I’m running late)
“…so I’ll get this shaving done quickly.”
“Now how can I optimise the process of shaving off all this stubble, so that I don’t miss any bits, but also I don’t go over the same patch unnecessarily thoroughly”
So then I concentrate on the shaving process, carefully planning the path which my electric shaver must take across my chin to achieve this fine balance. I don’t want to leave any patches of stubble, or individual hairs which will later irritate me throughout the day, but at the same time I don’t want to waste any time shaving too thoroughly. I repeatedly feel my chin to see if I’ve smoothed it off sufficiently in all areas. …and the whole process takes a minute or two.
Now the funny thing is… other mornings I don’t think about shaving at all. I just do it. Maybe because I’m too zonked out to think, or maybe because I’m not in hurry. Either way, I always manage to shave much more quickly, when I don’t think about how to do it quickly.
I’ve proved this to myself over and over again, and it annoys the hell out of me.
Need More Sleep
Gah! I’m so tired. I have a thousand rehearsals this week and a gig. Must… Get… To… Bed…
Camel meat
Miguel de Icaza’s blog pointed me to this this fantastic quote…
Sir Sandy Pratt’s pollack recipe (Letters, Mar 9) brings to memory a suggested method for cooking camel meat, which I saw hanging in the Arab souk in Hebron some years ago. Take a lump of camel meat and a stone of equal size. Place in a large pot, bring to the boil and simmer gently. When the stone is tender, so will the camel be.
Look to the right…
Look to the right and you should see the last couple of tracks I’ve been listening to. Neat huh. All provided courtesy of Audioscrobbler.
Moved In
It finally happened, I moved into my house. Check out the photos. As a comparison of what it looked like before see this blog entry.
New Nine Inch Nails with added Grohl
Hi,
Yes, thats right Dave Grohl is drumming on the new NIN album!
Those of you who know me will be aware that I FREAKIN love the NAILS and FOO FIGHTERS and NIRVANA so its probably gonna be ace.
And I certainly haven’t heard any leaked tracks on t’internet so I definetely don’t know that they sound bloomin’ brilliant!
Ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa,
