kayaking holiday in Canada

with 5 comments

I just got back from a kayaking holiday in Canada. We took three posh businessmen’s hire cars and totally wrecked them, strapping kayaks to the rooves, and driving them up bumpy dusty logging roads on a 3 week treck around the rivers of Brittish Columbia. The whitewater was excellent, and I got see a wild bear, and I caught a salmon, and… and… and… the others didn’t want to eat my salmon because they said its face looked diseased, but I think that was just because I’d shoved it head first into the end of my kayak, so I ate it, and it was good.

My “headogotchi”

with 3 comments

Err,

I don’t have photoshop at work so this crappy drawn effort will have to do for now.

Sorry about that,

Jonny K.

(I’ll never see my tenner again will I?)

I didn’t want to be a lumberjack…

As soon as the Inland Revenue acknowledge the forms, I’ll be a self-employed IT Consultant (*). And a real purty one, too.

(*) Just like I have been for the past two months — with real cash in the bank! — but I neglected to return the forms sooner, and there’s a £100 fine if you leave it longer than three…

…and my hackergotchi needs a haircut…

Shiny new feature…

without comments

If you are one of the people who writes on here… I’d like to introduce a new feature. You’ll notice that all my blog entries have a “hackergotchi” next to them (and that the theme has changed AGAIN. It’d be nice if people could upload an image for their posts. Instructions on how to create an image similar to the one I have are available here.

To add the picture, log in and then edit your profile. At the bottom of the profile there’s an option to upload an “avatar or picture”. Put the picture there and save settings. Hey presto, your picture should appear next to all your entries! The maximum dimensions of the picture are 80×80 pixels. Enjoy.

Weekend busy

without comments

I seem to have spent a lot of time sleeping this weekend. I went to buy a kitchen on Saturday and spent the morning and half the afternoon doing that. The poor guy at Wickes looked pretty stressed in the morning, so we looked round some other places and then went back there in the afternoon. They made us they best offer and they product seemed pretty good so we ordered.

Spend the Saturday catching some sleep and then went to a party at Edie’s in the evening. It was nice to catch up with a few people I hadn’t seen in a while (and don’t get to see very often).

I stayed over at Edie’s on Saturday night, then spent Sunday morning there, mainly lounging around. The rest of Sunday was spent mooching around and sleeping.

Time To Move On

without comments

Well, I figured this might be up here for quite some time, so I had better change some things. It wasn’t quite like that, after all.

Will you let me tell a story?
Every word I speak is true.
Of a decade’s worth of hurt, and
How I fell in love with you.

The day that we both met, you
Told me that you would have me.
Could not cope with all those feelings,
Who can blame me? I was young.

I pushed you away from me
How on Earth could I have known, that
I needed your attention
Just as you had sought my own.

My fascination with you
Quietly in my mind it grew.
Every night I’d think of places
We could be and things we’d do.

Wanted so much to meet you,
But the fear it was to great.
Did not want to cause you anguish,
Was a chance I could not take.

You tapped me on the shoulder,
Could this be another chance?
Should have opened up my heart, but
Fear had put me in a trance.

Your image was perfection,
And the time it seemed so right, yet
I whispered “What have I done”
And ran out into the night.

From years of quiet obsession
I grew older, more mature,
And I gathered up the courage to
Ring the bell upon your door.

We talked for many hours, though
I was surely terrified,
It dawned on me that you were
Not the woman in my mind.

So shallow and so distant,
And you did not seem to care.
I knew it was not true love
But the feelings were still there.

Now every time our paths cross,
We refuse to even speak.
And I still keep my distance
When I see you in the street.

I don’t want to ignore you,
Truly want us to be friends, but
I cannot see the answer
Till this pain comes to an end.

One day I know things will change
And I’ll find myself true love.
We could talk about our past, on
Summer evenings at the pub.

I sometimes feel regretful
when I lie awake at night.
But things that seem so stupid,
Could it be I got them right?

If I have learned one lesson
From this crazy long ordeal,
It’s don’t take flights of fancy
With people, just keep it real.

Apple Airport Express AES stream key

Courtesy of DVD Jon’s justeport utility. I might actually consider getting an Airport Express!

The stream is encrypted with AES and the AES key is encrypted with RSA.
